About This Pattern

Koryo is named after the Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392 AD), an important era in Korean history from which the name "Korea" is derived. The pattern symbolises "seonbae" - a learned man who is characterised by a strong martial spirit as well as a cultured and scholarly approach to life.

This is the first black belt pattern, representing the transition from colour belt student to Dan grade practitioner. The movements are more advanced and require greater precision, power, and understanding of applications.

Key techniques: Sonnal arae makgi (knife-hand low block), Kodeup yop chagi (double side kick), Sonnal mok chigi (knife-hand neck strike), Pyonsonkkeut jireugi (spear-hand thrust), Geodeureo makgi (assisted block)
