About This Pattern
Taebaek is named after Mt. Paektu (also known as Taebaeksan), meaning "bright mountain." This sacred mountain is the traditional birthplace of the Korean nation, where Tangun, the legendary founder of Korea, is said to have established the first Korean kingdom.
The bright mountain symbolises the sacredness of soul and embodies Tangun's humanitarian ideals. Mt. Paektu, located on the border between North Korea and China, is the highest peak on the Korean peninsula and is considered the spiritual home of the Korean people.
